Environment

As a world leader of the direct selling industry, Amway takes its environmental responsibilities seriously. Already the first product ever marketed by Amway, the multi-purpose cleaner Liquid Organic Cleaner (L.O.C.™), was a biodegradable concentrate, and as such way ahead of its time. Still today Amway is constantly improving its products in order to fulfill its ecological responsibility. The L.O.C.™ multi-purpose cleaner, for instance, complies with the relevant OECD criteria as a readily biodegradable ingredient. Our SA8™ laundry detergent is exclusively shipped in cartons made from 100% recycled paper.

A further testament to our respect for the environment is the Amway Nutrilite farms. Amway is the only producer of food supplements worldwide to grow, harvest and process plants for its products on its own farms, which are ran in accordance with the standards of certified organic farming as applicable in each location.

Environmental stewardship

Our initial dedication to the environment has become a cornerstone in the Amway corporate philosophy. Amway is continuously working to keep the effect of its corporate activities on the environment to a possible minimum. This includes efforts to conserve resources, to rely on renewable energies and natural ingredients, and to avoid hazardous substances.

But protecting the environment is also something where each individual has a role to play. Because environmental protection can only be effective with everyone getting involved, Amway promotes environmental awareness among its employees in the manufacturing process.

Amway's commitment to the environment means that we strive to:

  • maintain compliance with the applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations throughout,
  • continually improve our environmental and safety balance,
  • minimize the impact of our business operations on the environment,
  • provide regular training to our employees on the issues of environmental protection and workplace safety,
  • periodically assess the progress of our environmental and safety programmes.

International recognition and award for our dedication to the environment

The environmental procedures of our worldwide operations have been audited and certified by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). For instance, the environmental management programmes of our manufacturing sites in Ada, Michigan, and Guangzhou, China, have been certified to be ISO compliant (ISO 14001:2004). In addition, the Amway World Headquarters in Ada, Michigan, have been certified by the environmental organization Wildlife Habitat Council.

Amway has received many international awards for its commitment to the environment. One of them was the United Nations Environment Programme Achievement Award, which Amway received in 1989 for promoting environmental education, and for encouraging young people to foster the environment.
